Essie in Watermelon

Brand: Essie Nail Lacquer

Shade: Watermelon
(bright pink color, glossy finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
Ok, it's not quite summer yet, but watermelon is my favorite kind of melon and I can't wait to eat lots of it this summer.  Until then, I'll just look at my pretty nails.

China Glaze in Love's a Beach

Brand: China Glaze Nail Lacquer

Shade: Love's a Beach
(neon pink color, metallic finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
There is one time of year that a shade like this works. Luckily, we're in it! This one's perfect for voyages, vacations, staycations, and summer Fridays.

Julep in Maddy

Brand: Julep Nail Color

Shade: Maddy
(raspberry pink color, glossy finish)

Color: $$$

The Scoop:
This week at work, we've got a big event to celebrate women so here's my salute to Jane Park, who founded Julep. She seems like an awesome lady and I love their polish (even more than Maddie, Jennifer's my go-to, for obvi reasons!).

Butter London in Disco Biscuit

Brand: Butter London 3 Free Nail Lacquer-Vernis

Shade: Disco Biscuit
(fuchsia pink color, purple iridescent glitter finish)

Cost: $$$

The Scoop:
Here's an oldie from Butter that reminds me of my love of ABBA and 70s disco. The shade is great and the iridescent microglitter pushes it over the top, but I wish it wasn't so sheer. LOTS of coats used here. But it will make you look good on the dancefloor.

Nails Inc in Sloane Street & Knightsbridge

Brand: Nails Inc. 2 in 1 Pop Art Polish

Shades: Sloane Street & Knightsbridge
(bubble gum pink color with glossy finish & pink and blue confetti matte glitter with clear finish)

Cost: $$$

The Scoop:
Remember last week I wore a shade only suitable for girls 13 and under? Well, chalk another up for the tweens. I will say, this one looks more fun than it is. The pink needs a boost of gloss and the confetti needs to be applied so many times to actually cover your nail. Not worth the time, or money.

Sally Hansen in Flame On & Twinkled Pink

Brand: Sally Hansen Triple Shine Nail Polish

Shades: Flame On & Twinkled Pink
(hot pink color with iridescent finish & pinky gold color with glitter finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
Sally's my girl but I think this color combo should come with an age limit.  Like nobody over 13 years old can wear it. So I had to take it off a day after I put it on. But if you're in grammar school, go for it!

Revlon in African Tea Rose

Brand: Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel

Shade: African Tea Rose
(hot pink color, glossy finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
So Revlon's got a mashup here of perfume and nail polish, right down to the shape of the bottle.  And like many perfumes, I don't like the scent (I might even say I prefer straight nail polish stink to nail polish stink plus rose). But I do like the shade. Good thing the scent, like a cheap perfume, fades.

Victoria's Secret Pink in Love Pink

Brand: Victoria's Secret PINK Nail Paint

Shade: Love Pink
(bubble gum pink color, glossy finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
Victoria's Secret pink nail polish. Can I be more of a Valentine's Day cliche? I will say, the color goes on a bit streaky so it was a disappointment. (Much like most VDays.) Good thing chocolate is on sale at CVS.

Ciate in Serendipity

Brand: Ciate Paint Pots

Shade: Serendipity
(rose pink color, glitter finish)

Cost: $$$$

The Scoop:
This one is a party in a bottle. Girly, flirty, sparkly, and expensive. What more could your fingers want in February? Ok, okaaay. Maybe there's one other thing... but this is a nail polish blog, not a fairytale blog. xoxo

Revlon in Pink Pineapple

Brand: Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel

Shade: Pink Pineapple
(pale baby pink color, sheer finish)

Color: $$

The Scoop:
This shade is a bit too sheer for me.  It looks streaky, and makes my nails look ridgy. I will say, though, it kind of smelled like pineapples, so gold star for that!

MAC in Snob

Shade: Snob
(carnation pink color, glossy finish)

Cost: $$$

The Scoop:
This is a very girly shade.  It took 3 coats to get coverage that was mostly opaque.  I guess it's nice, but it's not really me.

Next Shade: Zoya in LC

ELLE in Pink About It & Bright Young Thing

Brand: ELLE Nail Lacquer

Shades: Pink About It & Bright Young Thing

Cost: $$$

The Scoop:
I got a dotting tool because it looks so easy to use on Pinterest. It's not. Looks blobby and took forever to dry. Maybe I need a YouTube tutorial...

Next Shade: Marc Jacobs in Blue Velvet

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Sally Hansen in Booty Camp

Brand: Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips

Shade: Booty Camp
(pink & white camouflage pattern, matte finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
These polish strips are fun and pretty easy to apply.  I don't know if I can deal with this particular pattern on every finger, but maybe an accent nail or two would be cute.

Next Shade: Julep in Emerson

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Avon in Seduce Me Strawberry

Brand: Avon Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel

Shade: Seduce Me Strawberry
(neon pink shade, shimmer finish)

Cost: $

The Scoop:
I've got to say, Avon is cheap as hell and they still manage to put out a good polish.  How do they do it?!

Next Shade: Rimmel London in Riches to Rags

Orly in Rage

Shade: Rage
(rose gold color, metallic finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
I'm not sure why they named this heavenly shade Rage but I like it. A nice twist on a gold mani, perfect for spring.

H&M in Purple Mist & Prim & Proper

Shades: Purple Mist & Prim & Proper
(light lilac color with metallic finish, pink & silver color with glitter finish)

Cost: $

The Scoop:
I don't shop in H&M very much, but whenever I pop in there, I can't resist the cheap polish by the register. These shades didn't photograph very well, no matter what I tried, but they are light and springy.

Nuance in Pink Grapefruit

Shade: Pink Grapefruit
(peachy pink color, glossy finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
Pastels aren't really my speed, but this was a nice shade. I'm still not sure what qualifies Salma Hayek to make nail polish, but it's a good product -- shiny, no chips, cheap and cheerful!

Next Shade: Julep in Misti

Friday, February 21, 2014

OPI in Aphrodite's Pink Nightie & Minnie Style

Shades: Aphrodite's Pink Nightie & Minnie Style
(semi-sheer cotton candy pink color with metallic finish & pink, red, white glitter with clear finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
It might be odd to mix a color named after lingerie with one named after a Disney character, but whatevs. This look isn't really for me, but maybe Mickey would like it.

Orly in Tiara & Berry Blast

Shades: Tiara & Berry Blast
(silver color with glitter finish, bright pink color with iridescent finish)

Cost: $$

The Scoop:
Good thing I didn't have these shades when I was 16 because I would have worn them every day.  I especially liked the silver sparkles -- like a million little diamonds, which is probably what Orly was thinking too when then named it Tiara. Nice work!

Revlon in Bubble & Charmed

Shades: Bubble & Charmed
(hot pink color with glossy finish, bright orange color with shimmer finish)

Cost: $

The Scoop:
Our company sales conference was this week, so I chose these shades to show some team spirit on my fingertips.  Plus, it was in Scottsdale, AZ so this seemed like the kind of color you should wear when palm trees are involved. It went on thick with the first coat, but dried pretty quickly, as the name would indicate. Overall, the perfect look for this occasion.
